Nice read! I like how you covered in detail some of the pains in user experience & supply chain. In regards to your proposed solution, while it does seem to address the inventory problem and provides a way for users to check out the actual product before deciding to order it on the app, have you thought of any alternative pathways using the cart ID workflow for say, non-smartphone users or folks who don’t have/want to install the ikea app? While one of the reasons why people still visit physical stores (in this case, ikea) is the ability to actually see what something looks like in a ‘real-life living space’, the other is the ability to buy something right away vs. waiting for a delivery or paying for it! Which is a benefit that’s not currently available on say, Waifair or Amazon.
